English majors and graduate students are invited to apply for the scholarships listed below. Please submit all application materials to LaKeshia Martin-Ayers in 405 Colbourn Hall. The deadline is 5:00pm Friday, April 20, 2012. The following forms contain instructions for submitting your application, and must be filled out:
Applicants must be enrolled English undergraduate majors or graduate students during the semester of application and the semester in which the award is granted. Students may apply for more than one scholarship (see guidelines for details).
The Frances R. Lefkowitz Endowed Scholarship Fund. Awarded Fall 2012. The Frances R. Lefkowitz Endowed Scholarship of $450 is awarded to a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student in English who has maintained a GPA of at least 3.0. Recipients will be selected based on financial need for the scholarship, and the award must be approved by the Department of Financial Aid. Applicants must also demonstrate involvement in leadership/community service.
The Jean C. Combs Scholarship. Awarded at the end of Spring 2013. The Jean C. Combs Scholarship of $200 is awarded to a full-time junior or senior English major who has demonstrated extraordinary commitment to the discipline of English as well as in the programs of the department of English.
The Frances R. Lefkowitz Endowed Scholarship Fund. Awarded Fall 2012. The Frances R. Lefkowitz Endowed Scholarship of $450 is awarded to a full-time junior, senior, or graduate student in English who has maintained a GPA of at least 3.0. The Promising Scholar Awards. Awarded Fall 2012. The Promising Scholar Awards are sponsored by the Burnett Honors College. Three promising scholars in the UCF Department of English will be awarded $100 each. Applicants for the Promising Scholar Awards should expect a graduation date no earlier than Fall 2011. Applicants must submit one piece of writing no longer than ten pages. (Poets may submit up to ten poems.) These awards, generously sponsored by the Burnett Honors College, are open to all English Majors, regardless of affiliation with the Burnett Honors College.
